Robert Grimm’s Bio Sketch
Robert Grimm was born and raised in Germany. While still in high school, he started a software consulting business and continued operating it until his sophomore year in college. However, right after high school, Robert worked for two years each in psychiatry and film production. Thereafter, he moved to the United States for his academic education in computer science, receiving a BS and MEng from the Massachussetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, and a PhD from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.
After completing his PhD, Robert served as Assistant and Associate Professor (with tenure) at New York University (NYU). Academic awards include a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation and a junior fellowship at NYU’s Center for Teaching Excellence. He then switched to industrial software engineering, working for Goldman Sachs, Meta, and a couple of startups, before returning to academia. Robert is currently working as a research scientist at Charles University in Prague, Czechia. He is also the proprietor of Schlagsahne, a new art gallery in Berlin, Germany.
Robert’s hobbies include music (listening) and photography (taking). At times, he blogs at apparebit.com.
